So what exactly makes carbohydrates different from fat and protein. Carbohydrates are sugar and are rich in foods like muffins and cake. Okay pasta and bread too. Even in fruits and vegetables. But why is it that they say vegetables and fruits are very good for you in yet they contain carbohydrates. The answer is that there are two different types of carbs. There is complex carbs and simple carbs.
Complex carbs are found in foods like oatmeal and vegetables. Simple carbs are found in the more sugary foods like cake and muffins. A great tip that many people do not understand is if you want to lose weight by cutting carbs then cut the wrong kind of carbs. Complex carbs are the type found in healthy foods like vegetables and fruit which provide more energy, but tend to store fat over a period of time. Simple carbs found in foods like muffins will actually make you fatter because they will store fat immediately if not burnt off right away.

Lets say you had a muffin for breakfast one day, but on a different day you had a bowl of oatmeal and you exercise at the same time about three hours later. What will happen is that you will have more energy eating the oatmeal because it has complex carbs and you will burn more off rather than if you had a muffin which would turn to fat quicker rather than fueling energy. It is not about losing weight by cutting carbs, it is about losing weight by cutting the wrong kind of carbs. By doing this you increase your energy and teach your body to not store as much fat. That is another reason why sugary foods are bad for you.
